Life in Bellingham...
Here we are in Bellingham! We have found a place to live - that we can't get into until the first - but huge relief anyways! I still don't have a job... the search continues... Ayla and I have managed to stay friends even though we are sharing a postage stamp of a room and a "full" size bed. I think one of the hardest things to handle so far is not really being able to cook... I don't feel like I can use the kitchen here and there isn't really room in the fridge for anything more than a few veggies. Can't wait to get into our house!

Long time... No post...
Wow! It has been a LONG time since I have posted anything on here. Much has happened - for instance, I moved back to Moscow and the... moved away again! My roommate Ayla and I are now in Bellingham WA. We got here on Monday and so far so good! I mean, we still don't have a permanent place to live and I don't have a job yet (interview today). Oh - and Ayla's car died. We think she blew a head gasket or something. But other than that we are enjoying Bellingham! It has been sunny all week and we've taken a number of long walks around our little part of it. It's fun getting familiar with a new area, finding new restaurants and stores to enjoy. I miss my friends but I'm enjoying being close to my family again!
So - I will try to maintain this blog more frequently than once every two years :-)

Getting in...
I bought my plane ticket! - which always makes me nervous... I'm flying into Spokane Washington on August 6th somewhere around 1:00-ish in the afternoon. My amazing brother has promised to pick me up - thanks bud!
I'm very happy to be getting back to Moscow but I'm also sad to be leaving here. I love New Mexico, there's this boy that I kinda like (of course, he's going to Tennessee). Altogether - I'm a bit sad.
But... Moscow - HERE I COME!!!

Going home...
Woot! Woot! I'm headed to Moscow! Well... in a couple of weeks. I'm really looking forward to getting back where everything feels comfortable. I've missed all of my friends bunches this summer.
I found out that the place I was planning on living at isn't going to work out long term. Thankfully I'll be able to stay there temporarily - until I find a more permanent place. Of course - I'm not even sure I'll be staying in Moscow, who knows what this next year will bring... and not having a job or a lease or anything is kind of freeing. I do know I need to be in that area at least through the beginning of October because my friends Abby is GETTING MARRIED!!! And I wouldn't miss her wedding for the world.
Speaking of Abby - her fiance Chris is going to be playing a show in ABQ with his band (Mon Marie) on August 5th! That's really the main reason I'm not flying back before then... well - that and the fact that we don't get done with camp clean-up stuff until sometime on the third.
Anyways... I am looking forward to getting back to Moscow, even if it means I have to find a place to live... and a job... and did I mention a car???

Black Clouds
I really hate being mad at people...
And the thing is - the closer you are to the person you're mad at... the worse you feel.
Now sometimes there is a very legitimate reason to be angry... we can all think of those reasons... but a lot of time (at least for me), I'm mad because I've taken something and blown it completely out of proportion. Someone didn't say hi to me, or they said something that I took the wrong way... it usually has to do with some slight I feel I've received.
Like I said - I hate being mad... especially at someone I'm close to. Usually when that happens I'll "storm around" for a bit (as it was recently described), go sit in the sun, have a quick drink of something strong - and get over it. I really love it when the person I'm mad at notices that I'm walking around under a black cloud and decides to brave the storm and talk to me about it. What should really happen is that I be the one to take the step and "confront" them about whatever I'm mad about. Usually I will realize that I'm being stupid- I'll apologize, and everything will go back to the way it should be!
The most important thing is to "not let the sun go down on your anger". For reals... don't stay mad at someone over night and don't let someone think you're mad at them if you've forgiven them or just "gotten over it". In the morning - everything needs to be fixed (at least as much as possible).
And it always feels great to not be mad at someone...
(This is the end of a confusing post - I blame the hour of night and the end of a long day - full of black clouds. Goodnight!)

Green Chili Stew
While I have been down here in New Mexico - I have discovered a new favorite stew. Both times I've had this stew it was made with chicken instead of beef or pork although it sounds like it would be great with those as well! A chunky, spicy stew - you have to like fresh green chili to enjoy this. Although I have yet to make this stew myself, I wanted to share the recipe with you.
This recipe comes from the Santa Fe School of Cooking, Cookbook:
Serves 8
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 pounds beef sirlion or pork butt, cut in 1-inch cubes
1 1/2 cups diced onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
6 cups chicken or beef broth
1 pound red or white potatoes, cut in 1-inch cubes
2 - 3 teaspoons salt, to taste
3 cups roasted, peeled, chopped green chilis
3 tablespoons diced red bell pepper
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro, or to taste
1) Heat the oil in a 6-quart pot over high heat and brown the meat in batches. Set aside.
2) In the same oil, saute' the onions until golden. Add the garlic and saute' 1 minute. Return the meat to the pan along with any juices that have accumulated.
3) Add the broth, potatoes, and salt and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour, until the potatoes are tender.
4) Add the green chiles and the red bell pepper, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes more. Add the cilantro, stir, and serve.
This stew goes great with some hearty bread to scoop with and to help take the heat off. Remember that you can use very mild or very spicy chiles depending on your personal tastes.
Enjoy!
